This game is similar to Vendetta in some ways in that it's a race against time to find a murderer. All the faeries have gathered to the Summer Court to prepare for the grand celebration of the Summer Solstice. The Faerie Lord and Lady, Neiros and Rosaline, will soon arrive! The holder of the court, their steward, Suite, opens the ceremonies with much fanfare and aplomb... Right until everything goes supernaturally dark. When the darkness is dispelled, he is found dead, brutally murdered!
The court is in an uproar and the killer must be found, but faeries are strange creatures and protocol must still be followed. You must solve this murder before the Queen and King arrive while still dancing around the convoluted rules of ettiquette lest you be thrown out for your boorish behavior.
THE RULES OF COURT
----------------------
1. Faeries hate death. Physically touching any corpse is a faux pas, though you may look at it so long as you do not stare.
2. Direct questions are impossibly rude. You may not ask any direct questions about the murder (Such as going up to someone and asking "Did you do it?")
3. Faeries can never directly lie. But they can lie by ommission, bend the truth, and other forms of trickery.
4. If someone asks you to dance, you can refuse but it is extraordinarily rude to do so.
5. You may not use the words 'death' 'dying' 'corpse' or 'body.'
6. You cannot directly ask for a favor, but you can phrase something that you want with a strong implication that you'd like someone to do said thing.
7. A duel can never be refused.
8. You may not touch another faerie unless invited to.
If you break the rules of court 3 times, you are evicted from the court and out of the game!
THE OBERON CROWN
Suite, as steward to the court, was wearing the oberon crown, a delicate silver and flower crown said to hold enormous power. No doubt that this was likely why he was killed. If the killer manages to lay hands on the item, the game is over. However, this is not easily accomplished as it remains on the corpse and anyone who picks it up directly from Suite's body will be evicted from court.
THE COMING OF NERIOS AND ROSALINE
The murder must be solved before the Lord and Lady of Faerie arrive. The court has 24 hours in which to solve the murder. Each 'round' counts as an hour. If the killer is not found by then, the chaos of the arrival of the faerie leaders will allow them to escape justice. Each round allows for 3 posts per person or 24 IRL hours (longer if I am unable to post at the time) and counts as 1 hour.
THE DANGER OF DUELING
The killer can be brought to justice by being successfully outed in front of court or by being slain in a duel. But beware; the killer has an edge in fighting that causes them to win more duels than not. Ordinarily a duel has a 50/50 outcome (I'll flip a coin basically.) All duels are to the death or at least grievous injury. The loser is removed from court. But fighting the killer is a 25/75 chance in the killer's favor unless your faerie-type changes the odds.
OUTING THE KILLER
If you think you've found the killer, you may make a formal announcement before court. Doing so requires you give all reasons for why you believe the accused is the killer. The court will collectively judge them innocent or guilty. If they judge guilty, that faerie is lynched... and if it turns out they were innocent, you will be exiled from faerie! If they judge guilty and the lynched faerie is the killer, congratulations, you win! If they judge innocent, the accuser will be exiled from faerie for unbearable rudeness, so make sure you have a compelling case!
FAERIE TYPES
There are 12 kinds of faerie and each kind has some unique abilities:
Alven (Bard) - These faeries have a strange effect on sound and words, able to mask and change sounds and can conceal against eavesdropping. When they desire, they can make a conversation sound, to outsiders, like meaningless babble.
Daoine Sidhe (Heir) - These faeries can be forgiven some transgressions by their loveable nature. They can make 4 transgressions of court before exile.
Tuatha de Danann (Knight) - Consumate fighters, these faeries have 75/25 odds in their favor. When fighting against the killer and/or other Tuatha, it is 50/50.
Nibelungen (Mage) - These faeries have a strange sympathetic magic with items or people touched. Doing so grants them a brief vision.
Hobgoblin (Maid) - These are fairly low ranked faeries. Their status and their magic allows them to move unseen if they remain utterly silent while passing through a room. As soon as they speak, the ability is lost until they leave the room and re-enter.
Painajainen (Page) - Another servant-level faerie. These faeries may touch and handle objects and people without permission (except for the crown of oberon) so long as they don't leave the room with the items. They are still not permitted to touch corpses.
Rakshasas (Prince) - These faeries are high ranking. You cannot challenge them to duels, though they can challenge other people.
Puck (Rogue) - The only kind of faerie who can lie but only a limited number of times before their nature does not protect them. They may lie three times total.
Roanne (Seer) - This faerie is capable of seeking the ether for visions. They must do so in a room while completely alone and undisturbed for 1 hour. Any interruption will spoil the vision.
Sylph (Sylph) - These faeries are capable of creating illusions.
Tengu (Thief) - These faeries can shapeshift to look like other people.
Wilde Frauen (Witch) - This fairy can twist the words of others, exerting their magic. They can change one word in a sentence that someone speaks. For example, someone could say "The food is quite good." They can use their magic to have someone say, "The food is quite terrible."
To sign up, choose 1 character (or make up one) and fill out the following form:
(An example of a magical signature would be Woodsmoke and Fresh Baked Bread. Anytime a faerie uses their innate abilities, they give off this scent.)
