If you've looked into the inspirations for MSPA (or just get old game references), you'll likely know that the command prompt is based on old text-based adventure games. Like Zork! Don't worry, if you haven't played any, the concept of this is easy enough to get.
This game is what happens if you take one of those old games and replace the coding with a living narrator. You could say it's just a stylized form of ordinary play-by-post. I'll post a description of your surroundings, and you'll respond with a command for your character. Each player can have as many as they wish, and there are no real rules for them besides the fact that there are no items and no ridiculous powers, though the former will pop up as you go along. Of course, the typical powerplaying/godmoding rules apply as well. However, you don't have to use a character on the site, or even one that you describe so long as you at least make their name, species, and any weird abilities clear. It makes it easier on the narrator that way. In addition, don't assume anything that isn't given, but feel free to examine the environment around you.
Make commands however you like. RP post? Sure. Homestuck-style commands? Sure. TAKE KEY? Go for it. The main goal is to have fun and explore.
Also, to clarify, all characters start off in the same room. You're welcome to interact and brainstorm! I'll step in when needed.
Without further ado!
You open your eyes - it's dark, but they adjust quickly. Before you is a room with plain, rusty metal walls that have a few shallow dents in them. They seem to be clustered in one corner of the room, as if there was a struggle there, although it must have been a long time ago because there's nothing here. A pipe extends along one side of the wall, part of it bent and broken as if someone removed a chunk.
In front of you is a steel stairway, although it looks wet - you can't tell what's on it from here, though. Behind you is a small crawlspace that you likely came in through, but you don't recall the occasion. It's blocked off with something now; I'm not sure if you want to know what it is judging by the smell. It's almost like oil, but it burns the nose if you get too close.
The walls are bare aside from the pipe and a small hook with some sort of a ribbon on it, caked with grime. I wonder why it's there?
