First off, I apologize profusely for not being as active as I should. To make up for my inactivity recently, have some unusual trivia!

Chernobyl Elephant's Foot
TW: Radiation, The Soviet Union, Abandoned Cities, Death
Many have heard of Chernobyl and what happened there. It was a city in Ukraine where an experiment was done at a nuclear power plant. It was to test a new emergency core feature. This was a bad idea.
During the experiment, reactor 4 went into maximum overdrive, causing an explosion. This created a domino effect, wrecking pretty much the entire plant. The city was abandoned, along with its neighbor Pripyat. Both cities are rotting alone to this day, permanent snapshots of life back then.
Later, a mass of slag was discovered on the basement floor, called the elephant's foot due to its flat, wrinkly shape. The slag consisted of concrete, molten metal and reactor fuel. "But Hotdog, what's so special about this thing?!" I'll tell ya: It was so radioactive that if you saw it in person, you were dead instantly. No ifs, ands or buts. Many have called the Elephant's Foot 'Medusa' because of this. Some have dubbed the material that Medusa is made out of 'corium' due to being made from a reactor core.
There are pictures in the next spoiler, but don't worry, pictures are safe to look at.
This is medusa when she was still relatively fresh. I think it was taken about 10 years later, might be wrong. The workers who were searching the area tried to send a wheeled camera they rigged up in, but the radiation destroyed it. This picture was taken through a mirror at the end of the hall. [MEDUSA INTENSIFIES]
This is another picture of the elephant's foot. Note how the room looks like a rave party; this is from the radiation. The reason the picture is so grainy and blurry is because the radiation fucked the camera.
This is from later still. Medusa is beginning to crack and crumble, and the radiation is weakening. The picture is still grainy due to radiation, but there is definitely a difference. I wonder if that guy is ok?

Ghost tape number 10
TW: War, ghosts, death, general sadness
The Vietnam War. Something any 70s kid will remember. Heavily criticized, it was one of the deadliest wars the US got involved in. During this war, the Americans came up with an idea, an idea to discourage the Viet Cong. And thus, Ghost Tape Number 10 was created.
Also known as operation wandering soul, usually at night, teams of technicians would hide in the vegetation and play this spooky tape on loudspeakers, or fly in helicopters playing it. The contents of the tape played on the Vietnamese belief that when you die, you must be buried properly or your soul will be lost, wandering helplessly forever.
The tape begins with a clip of Buddhist funeral music, and the moaning/crying of a ghost of a young man killed in battle long ago. His daughter is also heard crying out for her father. He laments his situation and begs the soldiers to go home to their families.
This is a video containing the audio of the tape. Take a listen:
